As a finance professional with a Harvard MBA, Sherri draws upon her artistic instincts to bring creative problem-solving to her work.

“My mixed media collage works include handmade papers collected from around the world, rice paper, financial memorabilia, currency strips, old stamps, gold leaf, and acrylic.   When I purchase handmade papers, I typically don’t know how I’ll incorporate them into my artwork.   Organized by color on repurposed wine racks and garden trellises, these beautiful papers provide both inspiration and a palette for new works.   Collecting paper is a passion, and the hunt is an integral part of the process.   In some ways working with paper can be more challenging than using paint in that handmade papers may not be available once the sheets are used.   Handmade paper making is a dying art, and each piece is an art piece in itself.   My husband Dan, who is my biggest supporter, collects financial memorabilia and graciously donated antique stock certificates and stamps for use in my newest pieces.   There is considerable history and art associated with these materials, and if only the journeys could be traced, what a story they would tell!   The collage works are highly textured and layered, making the finished artwork more like sculptural paintings. They reflect a love of the tactile feel of paper and experimentation with textures.   The process involves tearing down and rebuilding into something new and beautiful.   These contemporary pieces consist of jagged edges, straight lines, bold colors and elements of surprise.   They take the viewer into my world of imagination and to a happier, meditative place.
Having worked in the financial field and discovering my passion for art later in life, I have had a nontraditional path as an artist.  Recent pieces include antique stock certificates and old stamps, as a way of bridging past and present careers while melding into a cohesive whole.” -Sherri
